iPhone 6 latest leaks: Body in space gray, silver, and gold

The excitement over the iPhone 6's pending release isn't going to die out anytime soon. In fact, new mock-ups, both real and Photoshopped, seem to crop up every day as we move closer to the rumored third-quarter launch of Apple's latest flagship smartphone.

The latest leak shows images of the upcoming iPhone 6 in three colors: space gray and silver, which Apple already offers in its earlier iPhones, and gold.

"We've recently obtained new images showing what appears to be a gold iPhone 6 mock-up pictured next to the other two color variations that Apple currently offers. As mentioned, this is definitely a dummy model, but it's also the first time we've seen a gold one," writes Dom Esposito of 9to5Mac, which got hold of the leaks.

The images also show the gray and silver dummy units featuring a gold Touch ID button, which Esposito finds "a bit out of place" but are "definitely fun to look at."

Also reportedly coming straight out of Foxconn's mouth, Apple's biggest Asian supplier, is another set of 3D renderings that seem to match last week's leak of Macitynet.it. The new leaks, which were obtained from Asian website Wei Feng, confirm the latest rumors that the iPhone 6 will sport a 4.7-inch screen and rounded edges similar to the iPod.

The leaks also show the power/sleep/wake button has been moved from the side to the top of the handset, while the volume keys on the left side are elongated. The Lightning and headphone jacks remain unchanged at the bottom of the phone. The LED flash also appears more rounded, compared to the flattened oval found in the current generation of iPhones.

Back in April, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released a letter to investors detailing the supposed release of the iPhone 6. Kuo, who has a reputation for making accurate predictions based on his sources coming from Apple's supply chain, said the latest iPhone will indeed feature a 4.7-inch screen made entirely from sapphire crystal, at least for the higher-end 64 GB models and up, and a Retina display with a resolution of 1334 x 750 pixels.

Under the hood, Kuo said the iPhone 6 will run on a new Apple A8 processor and 1 GB of RAM, although Samsung and other Android smartphone makers have been incorporating 2 GB and 3 GB of RAM in their 2014 devices.

The iPhone 6 will also undergo a major design overhaul, as per Kuo's report. This seems to confirm earlier renderings of a thinner iPhone 6, which looks to be one-third thinner than the already ultra-slim iPhone 5S.

Kuo said Apple will launch the iPhone 6 sometime in September in time for the Christmas shopping rush, followed by a 5.5-inch iPhone phablet with specs similar to the rumored 4.7-inch iPhone 6.
