Metal Gear series director Hideo Kojima and its publisher Konami have been in a feud for quite some time now. It was previously reported that Kojima will part ways with Konami after Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is completed, and now gamers have started to see his name removed in quite a few places.
Besides Konami already removing the Kojima Production logo from their official website, it also removed all Kojima references from the updated Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain box art.
Photos of the latest box art were uploaded onto NeoGAF, which clearly show that the Kojima Productions logo. The text above the game title that reads, " A Hideo Kojima Game" has also been removed. The only other difference between the two is that the game has now been rated M for mature audiences.
It should come to no surprise that Kojima references would be removed. Japanese voice actor Aki Otsuka has confirmed that Kojima Productions will close, making Metal Gear Solid V its final game. Still, Kojima has stated multiple times that he is committed to the release of the latest title, although it will be his production's last one.
"In accordance with the recent change in production organization of all of Konami, Kojima Productions, as well as other internal production companies, has had its name, etc., changed to move into the corporate headquarters work structure," Kojima previously said. "The name and organization has changed, but as before, MGSV: TPP is continuing as a work from director Kojima and the existing team members."
The publisher has even previously made changes to its Twitter account to remove the Kojima brand, but said in a tweet that the new account will remain in the hands of the same Metal Gear team members.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be released on September 1.
