Although its release is still 71 days away, you can go ahead and preorder your copy of Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain as of today on the PlayStation Store.
And as with most game preorders, if you purchase now, you'll get a good deal of bonus content: a Windurger S333 combat special revolver, a personal olive drab ballistic shield, a rocky terrain cardboard box and a pair of black ocelot fatigues.
Of course, you still have to wait until midnight Pacific time on September 1 to actually play the game when it releases to the public.
"Ushering in a new era for the franchise with cutting-edge technology powered by the Fox Engine, MGSV: The Phantom Pain, will provide players a first-rate gaming experience as they are offered tactical freedom to carry out open-world missions," writes Sony on the PlayStation Store.
Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain takes place nine years after Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. In Phantom Pain, Snake wakes up in 1984 after being in a coma for nine years. Snake's adventures take him into Cold War territory where "he is driven by a need for revenge and the pursuit of a shadow group, XOF."
Sony promises a game with an open world, as well as "photo-realistic visual fidelity and feature-rich game design."
However, Phantom Pain is not without controversy: according to IGN, the game possibly has microtransactions, something developers seem to love and gamers seem to hate. Although these microtransactions are optional, most gamers feel they give an unfair advantage to fans who can afford to buy extra gear during gameplay. It also frustrates gamers because they've already plopped down $60 on a game and feel that developers asking for more money is greedy.
This possibility has already raised the ire of some gamers, who left comments on IGN stating that they would cancel their preorders and refuse to buy the game.
Game developer Konami also plans on releasing a collector's edition of Phantom Pain that will feature physical items, such as a replica of Snake's bionic arm, a Steelbook case, a Blu-Ray disc with documentaries and trailers, a map and special packaging.
In honor of preorders opening up for Phantom Pain, Konami also tweeted that Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is one of the titles gamers with a PlayStation Plus subscription can expect in July as part of that service.
