Move over Google, Epson is truly first and second to market with computer eyewear

The latest wearable in computing eyewear has actually hit the shelves and nope, it's not Google Glass.

Epson, which calls itself the premiere projection technology leader, is debuting its Moverio BT-200 augmented reality smart glasses that it says will open a whole new world in everything from medical science to entertainment and at an affordable price.

"Moverio BT-200 is Epson's second-generation smart glasses and incorporates much of the feedback provided by both the AR developer and end-user communities," said Anna Jen, director, New Ventures/New Products for Epson America, in a statement.

"With these improvements, Moverio BT-200 is poised to deliver an AR experience that will revolutionize workflow, training and repair in the enterprise environment."

Epson's first Moverio sold for a bit more, about $950.

The new computing goggles come as Google Glass remains pretty much under lock and key from consumers though Google ran a one-day purchase opportunity last month and supposedly sold out of its stock.

The Moverio differs from Glass in that it offers dual displays (one for each eye), and the fact that it's actually for sale at this point.

The BT-200 features an interactive track pad and navigation menus that put games, apps and content right at the users' fingertips. You can browse the web, check email or research the latest restaurant.

The removable memory supports a 32GB card. No idea how long the battery will last as even Epson side steps the question in its product description noting battery life may vary considerably depending on applications used, device settings (for example, Wi-Fi on or off, brightness setting), and temperature.
