Google Glass goes on sale again briefly for select customers - Shuts down shortly thereafter

Google Glass is so popular that it sold out within 24 hours the first time it was offered to the American public. Google put Glass up for sale yet again on Thursday, April 24, and shortly thereafter, all versions were listed as out of stock.

Google later said that the portal was opened for a limited time only for those customers who were still in the pipeline from the April 15th sale.

Google Glass was initially open only to those who filed an application to get the infamous wearable, but on April 15 Google allowed customers from the United States to buy Glass. Apparently, the steep price of $1,500 didn't deter would-be Glass buyers and the Cotton White version of Glass sold out in record time. All other color variations followed suit, and by the time the 24-hour sale was up, Google was all sold out of Glass.

The first public sale of Glass was announced and widely reported. This second public offering came as a surprise and for good reason, it turns out. Still, even though Google did not announce the second sale, Glass seemed to sell out almost immediately. No sooner had tech pundits typed the words, "Google Glass goes up for sale again," than eager customers who went to buy a pair were greeted with the distressing message that all color options were out of stock.

Later, Google told Yahoo Tech that the portal had been opened for a short time, so that customers from the April 15th sale could make their choices.

"This link was created to accommodate potential Explorers who were still in the pipeline from last week's sale. We're shutting it down shortly. As always, we will continue to experiment with ways to expand the Explorer program in the weeks and months ahead," the Google spokesperson wrote in an email.

Even though this time around doesn't qualify as a sale, it's clear from the response that people are very interested in owning a pair of the most controversial new wearable.

It seems that in spite of all the studies saying that most Americans aren't interested in wearables, in spite of all the negative press and the aspersions cast upon the character of those who choose to wear Glass, Google Glass is wildly popular. If Google was looking for confirmation that there is a market for a consumer version of Glass, it most certainly has its answer.

It's unclear when Google will have more Glass up for sale, but all signs point to a consumer launch in the near future. The consumer version will undoubtedly be a bit cheaper, so if you're not loaded with thousands of dollars, wait for Google to release the next version of Glass.
