Google Glass user robbed in Venice: Robber threatened the user with a taser

A Google Glass owner is in tears today, as a thief held him up and took his augmented reality heads up display, along with his laptop. What can we say? He never saw that one coming.

The victim in question was forced to give up all valuable items after being threatened with a taser by the robber. It was quite unfortunate and we hope it does not take long for the police force to locate the culprit and return the items to the distraught victim.

The whole incident took place at The Waterfront Café, a place that is located at 205 Ocean Front Walk, in Venice. The time of the robbery was reported to be around 8PM, which is a regular hour for a person to encounter folks with devious intentions.

Interestingly enough, this is not the first time a Google Glass owner was robbed. Lately, a woman was walking down the street while wearing Glass, then out of nowhere someone snatched it from her face and ran. These incidents are just beginning and are bound to increase as more people begin to wear Glass on a daily basis.

It is up to Google right now to find a way to combat the issue before it gets completely out of hand. We believe the final version of Glass should come packed with a kill-switch, similar to what Samsung has done with the Galaxy S5. Such a move should deter criminals from stealing from Glass users, as the device would be unusable.

The cost of Glass

At the moment, Google is selling Glass for a whopping $1,500. However, the final price is expected to be less expensive to encourage more users to give Glass a shot. For those who are unaware, Glass is an augmented reality heads up display that features a version of Android. Users can use the device to capture what they see around them and share it with loved ones or the web in general.

In the past, Google only allowed a selected few to purchase Glass, now anyone can do so under the company's explorer program. Bear mind though, you will be required to be a U.S. citizen with a U.S. address to qualify.
