Fan Creates Zelda's Hyrule In 'Far Cry 4' Using The Game's Map Editor

Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo's crown jewels. It's a huge deal when a new Zelda title is released, and they are the kind of games that are worth buying a brand new console just to play. It's for that reason you won't ever see Legend of Zelda on Xbox or PlayStation. Nintendo owns it, and they aren't going to be sharing it anytime soon.

That means if you want to play Zelda on a non-Nintendo console, you'll just have to make it yourself.

Easier said than done, right? But that's what YouTuber DannevoyeRomain has done. Using Far Cry 4's built in map editor, DannevoyeRomain has recreated the Hyrule found in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in stunning fashion on the PlayStation 4.

The video below highlights a number of iconic locations that Zelda players will instantly recognize: Hyrule Field. The Great Deku tree. Hyrule Castle Town. Kakariko Village.

It's not a perfect recreation, of course. As DannevoyeRomain is using the game's map editor, there are certain limitations. You will see light bulbs and some more modern looking buildings and items. The dress of the various NPCs wandering around the towns also aren't exactly what you might expect to see in Hyrule, but considering what DannevoyeRomain was working with, this is a seriously impressive recreation.

And that is all included in part one of the recreation. DannevoyeRomain has two other videos as well, highlighting Death Mountain, Lake Hylia, Lonlon Ranch, Gerudo Valley and much more. There is no telling how much time this took to create, but rest assured it wasn't done in an hour.

We've seen mods like this before in game's like Skyrim or recreations in Minecraft, but there is something fascinating about recreating the world of another game using a limited set of tools. Far Cry 4 wouldn't be the first choice for many when it comes to crafting a game within a game, but DannevoyeRomain pulls it off.
