The wait for the still untitled Legend of Zelda Wii U is going to be a long and painful one. Nintendo announced earlier this year that the game has been delayed out of 2015. The company then decided to show no new footage of the title at this year's E3, making the wait even longer for fans who can't wait to see more of the gorgeous open world adventure Nintendo has crafted from the ground up on the Wii U's hardware.
It's been rough, but there is some good Legend of Zelda news: the N64 classic Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is now available on the Wii U virtual console in North America.
Many consider Ocarina of Time the crown jewel of the Zelda franchise. While some may argue other titles in the series are better, there is no denying that Ocarina of Time truly revolutionized Zelda games, taking the series to the 3D environments and third person view many are accustomed to today.
Keep in mind this is the original N64 version of the title, not the remastered Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D that launched alongside the Nintendo 3DS. That version of the game features a number of improvements, including improved visuals, that aren't in the original N64 release. It's not all that surprising Nintendo isn't releasing the remastered classic digitally for Wii U. The game is the reason why more than a few gamers decided to pick up a Nintendo 3DS in the first place, and releasing it on Wii U for cheap would give gamers less incentive to pick up Nintendo's handheld.
If you want to take a stroll down memory lane and relive one of Zelda's best before the (eventual) release of Zelda Wii U, Ocarina of Time on the Wii U virtual console will set you back $9.99.
