At this point, The Walking Dead has a well-known and visually distinct style — even for its trailers.
There's usually a lot of greens and browns, someone (usually Rick) talks about something ominous yet vague and a few zombies make an appearance for good measure. It's certainly not a bad thing, it's just that most fans know what to expect from any of the show's trailers by now.
Fear the Walking Dead, however, is still in uncharted waters: fans really don't have much of an idea on what to expect from the show, both in its style and narrative. Will Fear the Walking Dead follow in the original series' footsteps, or will the show take some liberties with its inspiration's previously-established style? Until the series debuts later this year, there's really no way of knowing ... but fans may have just gotten their first taste of what's to come.
It's extremely short, but what appears to be the Comic-Con 2015 teaser for Fear the Walking Dead just made its way online ahead of the show — and from the looks of things, the spin-off's tone might be a bit different from the series that inspired it.
Yes, it might sound a bit excessive to say that the teaser may give fans a hint about what direction the series is headed in with only 15 seconds of footage to look at, but think about it: was there ever anything like this teaser when the original Walking Dead series first debuted?
Think about it: even during its first season, most Walking Dead promotional material looked identical to what fans are treated to now: gray, ominous and dramatic. The Fear the Walking Dead teaser, on the other hand, is full of saturated colors, bikini-clad models and sunlight — all of which the original series lacked.
True, at this point, it's all speculation — there's no way of telling what the series will be like until it premiers. It's also extremely likely that Fear the Walking Dead will be similar to the original Walking Dead series ... but there is still a chance that AMC's spin-off will be quite a bit different from its predecessor — and would that be such a bad thing?
AMC's Fear the Walking Dead is set to debut this August.
