Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and 8.4 to use 2560 x 1600 display, fingerprint scanner, and more

Samsung is getting ready to launch an attack on the iPad Air and iPad mini with the Galaxy Tab S, which is expected to include a 2560 x 1600 resolution display, fingerprint scanner, and more.

Last year, Samsung announced that it was going to put more of its focus on its tablet lineup as sales of smartphones have begun to decline. The company has already launched seven different tablets this year and its upcoming Galaxy Tab S will have the iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display in its sights.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S will be offered in two sizes, just like Apple's iPad lineup. There will be a 10.5-inch model and 8.4-inch Galaxy Tab S. Both tablets will reportedly feature high-end AMOLED display that will have a higher resolution of 2560 x 1600, which just edges out Apple's 2048 x 1536 Retina display found on both models. The move to an AMOLED display will improve battery life while providing a high-resolution display.

Samsung doesn't plan on only beating Apple to the punch with a higher-resolution display, the company will also ship the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and 8.4 with the same fingerprint scanner found on Samsung's flagship Galaxy S5 and Samsung's answer to Apple's Touch ID. Apple is also expected to ship its next-generation iPad Air and iPad mini with fingerprint scanners.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S will reportedly be powered by a speedy Octa-core Exynos 5 processor that uses four 1.9GHz cores and four 1.3GHz A7 cores, it will also boast a very healthy 3GB of RAM. The Galaxy Tab S will run Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box and likely the company's new Magazine UX in introduced on some of its tablets this year.

The Galaxy Tab S' camera capabilities are said to include an 8-megapixel rear camera that will be able to record 1080p Full HD video and a 2.1-megapixel rear camera for video chat

The design of the tablet is said to match the recently released Galaxy Tab 4 and Galaxy S5 and will use a perforated pattern on its back that will make the tablet easier to hold.

Samsung plans on offering both the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and 8.4 in both Wi-Fi only and LTE models when they are officially announced. We'll keep you posted when more information becomes available.
