After revealing on Sunday that its anticipated Wii U game Mario Maker will now be known as Super Mario Maker, Nintendo finally confirmed a release date today during its E3 Digital Event. You'll be able to pick it up on Sept.11th.
As both the old and new name suggests, the game will let you build your own Mario levels, which you can then play and share with others. Those levels can be in the style of either the original Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World or New Super Mario Bros. U., all of which can be customized with a seemingly endless range of options, enemies, and characters.
As Nintendo demostrated during the event, those changes can make for a pretty radically different gaming experience than the original Mario games. Not surprisingly, Nintendo also has a new 30th anniversary Mario Amiibo figure in store, which give you an additonal power-up in the game.
Along with it, Nintendo also announced a new Mario Tennis game for the Wii U, Ultra Smash, which is due out in time for this holiday season, as well as Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam for the 3DS, although it's only set for release in spring 2016. Check out a video for Mario Tennis, and a special Mario 30th anniversary video featuring Shigeru Miyamoto on guitar, below.
