Nintendo's latest Digital Event — timed to the morning right before E3 begins — gave us a far-too-short teaser trailer for a brand new Metroid game. It's the franchise's first entry in five years, a fact that's made all the more remarkable when you learn that it's a 3DS game.
Metroid Prime: Federation Force is a four-player co-op game that you play over Wi-Fi with up to three friends. That trailer we mentioned showed a group of soldiers running around and shooting things, but strangely, none of them resembled Metroid's signature heroine, Samus. Nintendo labeled it as a mission-based game that's "set in the Metroid Prime Universe." Is that a political way of saying they left Samus out of this one?
A secondary game mode is called Metroid Prime: Blast Ball, which lets two teams of three go to war on sports fields. Oh, and those fields are science fiction-y, of course, so expect some crazy twists there.
No further details were released at this time, including a projected release date.
