Following in the footsteps of its successful Hitman Go title that made waves on iOS and Android devices, Square Enix announced today a second mobile Go title.
For Lara Croft Go, Square Enix Montreal worked closely with Crystal Dynamics to create an authentic experience featuring the popular character. But this is like no game Lara has ever been part of before. A lovely trailer shows Lara making her way through a lush jungle, with the player controlling her actions via touchscreen. The action unfolds from an isometric perspective, not unlike the Lara Croft platformer titles, but Go has a distinctive art style and gameplay mechanics all its own.
Square Enix describes its Go games as a franchise in which a beloved brand is "distilled to its core." In Hitman's case, it was the "essence of assassination." For Lara Croft, it's the "essence of adventure."
Lara Croft Go features turn-based gameplay with puzzles, adventure and action that unfolds in a gamespace that resembles a 3D board game. In it, gamers will explore the ruins of a long-forgotten civilization, discovering secrets and facing deadly challenges on their way to learn the truth about a mythical figure called the "Queen of Venom."
Lara Croft Go will be available sometime later this year on touchscreen phones and tablets.
