As Dick Costolo Steps Down, Snoop Dogg For Twitter CEO?

Twitter CEO Dick Costolo has said he will step down as CEO in the next few weeks, so the microblogging company is now in need of a new leader to take the helm. Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey is interim CEO for now, until the board finds a suitable and permanent replacement for Costolo.

"I am tremendously proud of the Twitter team and all that the team has accomplished together during my six years with the company," Costolo notes in a statement [pdf] about his resignation. "We have great leaders who work well together and a clear strategy that informs our objectives and priorities. There is no one better than Jack Dorsey to lead Twitter during this transition," adds the now-former CEO.

Not long after Costolo announced his decision to resign, Snoop Dogg expressed his interest in leading the company as the new Twitter CEO.

"I'm ready to lead @Twitter !! #SnoopforCEO," Snoop Dogg says on (of course) Twitter.

"First order of Business! Get that Moolah!" reads a subsequent tweet.

Snoop Dogg has roughly 12.3 million followers on Twitter, and is rallying them under the #ifSnoopWasTwitterCEO hashtag to support him as a candidate for the CEO position.

Most of the tweets circulating under this #ifSnoopWasTwitterCEO hashtag are pretty fun to read, with various suggestions that could make you giggle. While many joke about Snoop Dogg's "affinity," so to say, for certain leafy greens that make you high, the idea of him as a CEO doesn't sound too bad.

Snoop Dogg has been involved with a slew of commercial products so far and has plenty of experience when it comes to business. Additionally, he is well-accustomed to Twitter and all over social media in general.

Upon announcing his resignation, Costolo told the media that the next Twitter CEO should love the microblogging service and use it every day, and Snoop Dogg would qualify for this prerequisite. Snoop Dogg already has an army of followers on Twitter, he already tweets intensely, and he knows the importance of social media.

It remains to be seen whether the company investors and the board will see Snoop Dogg as a viable candidate for Twitter CEO, but Snoop already enjoys notable support and some other intriguing options. Box CEO Aaron Levie, for instance, says he'd be interested in a joint venture, and Snoop says he's open to the idea if things don't work out with Twitter.
