San Diego Comic-Con has seen a drought of all things Star Wars over the last few years.
The revered franchise has a long, storied history with Comic-Con, going all the way back to a time before George Lucas' original film was released. It was at that early (and much smaller) Comic-Con that the very first buzz was built around Star Wars. When Lucas returned to filming to make his prequel trilogy, all three got strong pushes at Comic-Con, as did Star Wars: The Clone Wars and many other corners of that galaxy far, far away. The two became so inextricably linked that Saturday at Comic-Con has traditionally been known as "Star Wars Day."
But since Disney purchased Lucasfilm, Star Wars has been a no-show at the Con.
Good news for fans: It looks like those days are over. StarWars.com has announced that Star Wars is returning to Comic-Con this year, with a marquee event — a big Hall H presentation for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Writer/director J.J. Abrams, writer Lawrence Kasdan and several actors from the movie will be on hand, and it's likely that they'll unveil a new trailer or clip from the film.
Other panels held throughout Comic-Con will take closer looks at topics like Star Wars publishing, toys, collectibles, and a special hands-on "virtual reality" presentation of Disney Infinity 3.0: Star Wars. Also of interest to Star Wars fans will be the ILM 40th Anniversary retrospective panel.
