The Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the 2013 model of the Moto X is now undergoing full soak testing, with the full deployment of the highly anticipated upgrade possibly next week.
The 2013 model of the Moto X is the first generation of the smartphone, but Motorola is not skipping out on updating the device to be powered by the latest version of Google's mobile operating system.
The news regarding the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the first generation Moto X was revealed by David Schuster, Motorola senior director of software product management, through a post on Google+.
According to Schuster, Motorola has started with full soak testing for the operating system update in both France and Germany, and if everything goes well, the full deployment of Android 5.1 Lollipop for the 2013 Moto X will be scheduled for next week.
Schuster added that the company has addressed an issue that it found during a previous soak test, and will also begin full soak testing of the operating system upgrade in the United States and Brazil within the week. Again, if everything goes well, the full deployment of Android 5.1 Lollipop for the 2013 Moto X in these areas will likewise be scheduled for next week.
Schuster also addressed certain questions regarding the support that carrier companies will provide towards the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for 2013 Moto X devices that are under the carriers. Schuster said that the company is working with the different carrier companies and is not anticipating any problems in deploying the update, though that came with a warning of possible delays as carriers usually take longer to roll out such updates.
Previous news regarding the Android 5.1 Lollipop update was back in May, when Motorola announced that it started the early testing program for the operating system update.
Owners of the smartphone have voiced out their complaints regarding the long wait that they have had to endure for Motorola to release the operating system upgrade for the 2013 Moto X.
Schuster, while not providing specific reasons on the cause of delay, pointed out the fact that the company was lacking support from some of the company's partners in developing and releasing the Android 5.1 Lollipop update to the smartphone as fast as possible.
