Samsung, HTC and LG have all launched their 2015 flagship smartphones. A new report claims Motorola is planning a new Moto X to take on its rivals, and the smartphone has some very impressive specs.
While Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have been shattering records in terms of sales, the company has been taking its time in adopting some of the standard specs most smartphone manufacturers are including in their latest and greatest.
One area where Apple lags behind competitors like Samsung and LG is in the smartphone display department. Apple's iPhone 6 features a 4.7-inch 1334 by 750 Retina display with the same 326 pixels per inch (ppi) density that debuted on the iPhone 4. Apple delivered a higher resolution display on the iPhone 6 Plus, which features a 5.5-inch 1920 by 1080 Full HD Retina display and a pixel density of 401 pixels per inch (ppi).
As impressive as Apple's iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Retina displays are, Samsung and LG have set the bar higher and deliver their Galaxy Note 4, Note Edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and LG G4 with 2560 by 1440 quad-HD displays. This also allows for a much higher pixel density — for instance, Samsung's Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge boast a pixel density of 577 pixels per inch (ppi).
A new report claims that Motorola is planning to join the quad-HD display party when it releases its upcoming Moto X (2015). Screenshots of the smartphone reveal that the model number of the handset is Motorola XT1542 and provides a rundown of its complete specs. The new Moto X will reportedly include a 5.2-inch 2560 by 1440 quad-HD AMOLED display, will be powered by a 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and 4 GB of RAM.
The new Moto X will run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and pack in a 16 megapixel rear camera and 5 megapixel front-facing shooter for selfies and video chat. Motorola will reportedly offer the Moto X (2015) in choices of 32 GB or 64 GB of internal storage and ship the handset with a large 3,280 mAh battery.
There's no word on when we can expect an official announcement, but we'll continue to keep you updated on Motorola's upcoming Moto X (2015).
