Hulk Takes A Selfie In The First 'LEGO Marvel's Avengers' Trailer

Earlier this year, TT Games announced development on a sequel to its superb LEGO Marvel Super Heroes video game. Rather than tack a number onto the end and deliver more of the same, the developer had chosen to do something a little different.

LEGO Marvel's Avengers is the name, and the initial teaser art showed the LEGO versions of the Avengers from Age of Ultron. This lead fans to suspect that the new game might follow the plots of the two Avengers movies. That would be a sharp contrast to the first LEGO Marvel game, which featured an original story uniting heroes from all across Marvel Comics.

This brand spanking new teaser trailer for LEGO Marvel's Avengers proves those suspicions correct, with an almost frame-for-frame recreation of highlights from the climactic Battle of New York at the climax of The Avengers movie.

This new focus exclusively on the Avengers leads us to believe that the game will likely draw its many playable characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For example, we're likely to see playable Minifigure versions of side characters like Thor's Heimdall and Odin, or Captain America's Bucky Barnes, or Guardians of the Galaxy's Yondu and Nebula. It's also likely characters will be featured from upcoming films like Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel. Maybe even the new Spider-Man.

It's entirely possible Marvel's TV characters could be included too, like Peggy Carter from Agent Carter, Coulson's team from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Daredevil and the other Defenders from Marvel's Netflix shows.

What this also would mean is that characters Marvel doesn't own the live-action licenses to like the X-Men and Fantastic Four are likely to be left out of the game. If that's true, then that makes LEGO Marvel's Avengers yet another cog in the Marvel/Disney machine that's out to erase the heroes from the movie licenses it doesn't own the rights to.

Regardless, TT Games always does outstanding work, and since the tag at the end with Ultron means we'll definitely be getting content from both movies, we could not be more in.

LEGO Marvel's Avengers is "coming this winter" according to the trailer. We'll let you know when a firm release date is announced.
