The price of the OnePlus One smartphone has been permanently reduced to $249 after an overwhelmingly positive response to a week-long flash sale of the smartphone.
In late May, OnePlus tweeted a cryptic image and message that contained the words "time to change," with an announcement to be expected on June 1. Users speculated that OnePlus will be unveiling the successor to its first smartphone, but the announcement turned out to be of the OnePlus Flash Sale.
In the week-long OnePlus Flash Sale from June 1 to June 7, the OnePlus One was made available for only $250, which is $50 off compared to its standard retail price. The sale was made available in varying times of the day for the duration of the offer to allow users from all over the world to have a chance to purchase the OnePlus One at the lowered price.
The offer was a limited one, but OnePlus stated that it was "blown away" by the sales figures that it received through the promotion. The company then reviewed the numbers and made sure that it was maintaining its commitment to users of disrupting the smartphone industry.
OnePlus designed the OnePlus One as a user-driven smartphone and sold it at cost to make great technology accessible to many more people. Over the past year, the cost of manufacturing the OnePlus One has decreased due to increased component orders from suppliers and more efficient operating scale; and with the positive feedback that the company received, OnePlus decided to take down the price of the OnePlus One to only $249 permanently.
In addition to the news of the reduced price of the OnePlus One, the company also announced a new partnership with Dropbox. The partnership will allow users to avail of a Dropbox Pro subscription along with a 64GB version of thee OnePlus One for a bundle price of only $349.
A Dropbox Pro subscription will provide users with Dropbox space of 1TB, where their files are protected with 256-bit AES and SSL encryption and two-step verification. Dropbox is compatible with a wide variety of devices and operating systems, and will also allow non-Dropbox users to access files that the user sends links to. In addition, users can choose to have pictures taken by the camera of the OnePlus One automatically uploaded to their Dropbox storage.
