2015 Summer Gaming Guide: Embrace The Indoors This Year With The Best Action, RPG And Sports Titles

Now that the lazy, hazy days of summer are upon us, many of us are struggling to find things to do to fill our free time, especially those of us who prefer staying inside and out of the heat.

But for video gamers, summer is often a time of boredom, as most major releases don't come out until fall.

So what's a gamer to do? Fortunately, we've put together a list of games that have recently released or will see release this summer that should keep us all entertained well into fall and winter.

Here are some highlights for games you should check out this summer.

Action

Batman: Arkham Knight (Xbox One, PS4, PC - June 23): If you're even remotely interested in video games, Arkham Knight is probably one of the most anticipated games of your summer. Who doesn't want to step into Batman's shoes one more time? Set just a year after Batman: Arkham City, the Dark Knight finds himself confronting Scarecrow, who has launched a widescale attack on Gotham City.

Also check out: God of War III Remastered (PS4 - July 14) and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 - September 1)

RPG

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Xbox One, PS4, PC - May 19): Is it any secret that this year's hottest title is also the must-play RPG of the summer? The Witcher 3 released a few weeks ago, and for gamers looking for a lot of bang for the buck (as in hundreds of hours of gameplay time), The Witcher 3 is the title for you. In The Witcher 3, you take on the role of Geralt of Rivia one final time as he searches a massive open world for signs of his student and friend, Ciri.

Also check out: Massive Chalice (Xbox One, PC - June 1) and Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy (PS Vita - June 9)

Sports

Madden 16 (Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 - August 25): For those who love sports games, you're obviously impatiently awaiting the next Madden title. Fortunately, that game comes out this summer, so sports gamers rejoice! As with previous titles, Madden 16 is all about season mode and online play. Oh, and it looks absolutely gorgeous.

Also check out: Project Cars (Xbox One, PS4, PC - May 12) and Ride (Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, PC - June 23)

Shooter

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood (Xbox One, PS4, PC - May 5): No summer is complete without a good shooter, and Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is the clear pick to keep you busy during the warmer days of the year. Like previous Wolfenstein titles, gameplay occurs in an alternate version of history where the Nazis have, more or less, won World War II, thanks to some supernatural artifacts.

Also check out: Not A Hero (PC - May 14) and Payday 2: Crimewave Edition (Xbox One, PS4 - June 16)

Exclusives

Until Dawn (PS4 - August 25): Survival horror action adventure title Until Dawn looks promising, especially with its beautiful motion-captured animations and graphics and Hollywood horror movie-style storyline. The game features lots of options for players, including the ability to make choices that affect the storyline and a replay factor that opens up new parts of the main story.

Also check out: Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains (3DS - May 12) and Splatoon (Wii U - May 29)

DLC

Dragon Age: Jaws of Hakkon (Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, PC - Various release dates based on platform): Don't put away those older games just yet, though. A lot of those titles are getting new content this summer, including Dragon Age: Inquisition. Although that DLC already debuted on Xbox One, it's now available on other platforms, too.

Also check out: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt ( (Xbox One, PS4, PC - new free DLC released every few weeks) and Destiny: House of Wolves (Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, PC - May 19)

MMO

The Elder Scrolls Online (Xbox One, PS4): If you're looking to pass your summer with an MMO, The Elder Scrolls Online becomes available for next-generation consoles this summer. Revisit the worlds you loved in previous solo Elder Scrolls titles, but this time bring along your friends.

Also check out: Heroes of the Storm (PC - June 2) and Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward (PS3, PS4, PC - June 23)
