Dark Souls (and its spiritual successor Bloodborne) have proven that gamers are just masochists at heart. Each game in the notoriously difficult RPG series has gone on to sell well and reach critical acclaim, so it is a no-brainer that a Dark Souls 3 is likely on the way.
The only question is when? We may now have our answer. VG24/7 reports, citing sources familiar with the matter, that Bandai Namco will announce Dark Souls 3 at this year's E3 press conference, which officially starts June 16.
And that's not all. The site also says Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki will be in charge of the development team. Miyazaki supervised the creation of Dark Souls 2, which was recently re-released on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 under the name Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin edition.
That's not a whole lot to go on, and VG24/7's source doesn't provide any additional information outside of guessing that the announcement might come during Sony's E3 press conference on Monday, June 15. What platforms the game will be available for is unknown. Dark Souls and both editions of Dark Souls 2 made their way to both Sony and Microsoft platforms, but Bloodborne (Dark Souls in all but name) remained a PS4 exclusive.
As for when Dark Souls 3 will actually come out, your guess is as good as ours.
E3 2015 is shaping up to be a huge show. Fallout 4 looks to be officially making its debut, Halo 5 is certain to make a splash during Microsoft's event and who knows what Nintendo will have up their sleeve? News that more Dark Souls is on the way is sure to make hardcore gamers ecstatic. Expect all the news starting on June 14, when Fallout publisher Bethesda holds their own press conference ahead of the big show.
