Lunatik, a premium mobile accessories brand, has recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for an Apple Watch case that transforms it to a rugged yet fashionable wearable.
Lunatik had created the the TikTok and LunaTik iPod nano watch and now they are creating a rugged case for the 42mm Apple Watch. Scott Wilson, who is a former Global Creative Director of Nike's watch and technology division, designed and created the case, which is made of aluminum alloy.
The company claims that the Epik protects the sensitive parts of the Apple watch, while leaving the heart rate monitor, screen, digital crown and other parts accessible.
"Epik's highly tactile Active-Control Crown couples seamlessly with Apple's Digital Crown to enhance grip, making interaction with your apps more efficient in highly active moments," per the Epik Kickstarter page.
Usually, a watch does not need additional protection. However, people who are involved in outdoor activities such as skiing, skating, trekking and more may need that extra protection for their Apple Watch.
"We know Epik is not for everyone. However, for those who rely on their gear while participating in extreme scenarios as well as the harsh realities of everyday life, it offers more rugged protection when you need to dig deeper, go bigger or just plain man-up," added the Epik Kickstarter page.
The case fits perfectly on the 42mm Apple Watch and the bezels of Epik are slightly raised for protecting the watch's edges and glass face. The case is also shock absorbent. The case has stainless steel perforated filters that provide additional ingress protection against water and dirt.
Epik also has a premium anti-dirt and anti-dust coated silicone sport strap or aluminum link bracelet that has silicone sub-links. Even with all these protection the Epik provides comfort to the user.
For a $100 pledge a customer can expect to get one Epik silver or black anodized aluminum case and silicone sport band. The estimated shipping is by September 2015.
Lunatik Epik's Kickstarter page offers various other pledging options.
The project had a goal of $100,000 but more than 1,300 users have already pledged over $174,000 for the project.
