If you don't know Andrew McMurry, it's time you met.
This talented filmmaker regularly posts his homebrewed short films to his YouTube channel, showcasing his talents for visual effects and animation. Over some 35+ videos, McMurry has brought numerous video games to life in the real world, including Call of Duty, Super Mario Bros., Minecraft, Half-Life 2, Grand Theft Auto, SimCity, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Fallout and more. His latest video, though, shows a particular level of imagination that's sure to tickle your fancy.
LEGO: First Person Shooter mashes up the charm of LEGO bricks and Minifigures with a handful of McMurry's own favorite video games. He reimagines those games as if all of the characters in them and many of the settings are made of LEGO. So taking down a terrorist in Counter Strike changes from a blood-soaked kill to a plastic person bursting into half a dozen pieces.
What makes the short film work is McMurry nails the gameplay sensibilities of each title. The four games are recreated in LEGO form, yet they behave precisely as you expect them to. It's really quite impressive.
Kind of makes you wish there were LEGO versions of your favorite games, doesn't it?
Don't forget to subscribe to McMurry's YouTube Channel, AndrewMFilms, to see more. We're particularly fond of his clever three-minute short Toy Wars. Might we humbly suggest starting there?
