Asa Butterfield Teases Spider-Man Role On Reddit

Marvel is on a serious roll with movies at TV series like The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Netflix's Daredevil—and there are no signs of the superhero train slowing down anytime soon.

Marvel already has some more blockbusters up its sleeve, with production on Captain America: Civil War just beginning for its May 6, 2016 release. But lately all the buzz has been about who will be the starring role in the next Spider-Man film to be released July 2017.

Spider-Man fans finally got confirmation over a week ago when Umberto Gonzalez, better known as El Mayimbe formally from the Latino Review announced on Instagram that the reps of actor Asa Butterfield were in negotiations with Marvel for the lead role.

Gonzalez, who is a trusted source when it comes to these exclusive scoops, did add that the deal has not yet been finalized, so we continue to wait for the big announcement.

But Butterfield himself is adding to the rumor mill after teasing his role as the new Spider-Man in a Reddit AMA.

The 18-year-old actor, known for his roles in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Hugo, and the BBC TVs series Merlin, used his verified account name "Stimpers" to respond to these reports. He then later deleted his comments.

Luckily, ComicBook was able to take a screen grab of the exchange.

One redditor commented on Butterfield's height under a headline that stated "Asa Butterfield cast as the New Spider-Man" using an image of the actor when he was a bit younger. Butterfield commented on the post saying, "Well actually, I am 6' tall."

While this does not confirm or deny if he was cast in the Marvel movie, it is interesting that the actor would delete his comments.

Three months ago, Butterfield also joined in on the Spider-Man speculation on Reddit by responding to a redditor who said that Peter Parker is suppose to be a "thin little bespectacled dweeb."

Butterfield, under the name Stimpers, responded, "I can do 'thin little bespectacled dweeb' pretty good, not far from myself actually."

Marvel and Sony have yet to confirm and officially announce who will play Peter Parker in the latest Spider-Man film.
