After months of rumors swirling around the 'net and secret casting meetings happening behind closed doors, it looks like Marvel has chosen its new big screen Spider-Man.
Eighteen-year-old Asa Butterfield, best known for Hugo and Ender's Game, is the new cinematic Peter Parker. At least, according to a new report from an "inside source."
The report comes from Umberto Gonzalez, formerly of Latino Review, who admittedly has a strong track record when it comes to exclusive scoops. According to Gonzalez's Instagram account, Butterfield's paperwork has yet to be finalized. But it sounds like that's a formality and that an announcement is forthcoming as soon as the deal is closed.

It's known that Marvel and Sony are looking to rewind Peter Parker's story to his days as a teenager in high school, and Butterfield's age fits. It's also expected that the new Spidey will cross over and become an Avenger for Marvel Studios' team-up movies.
Speculation pointed to Spidey showing up in next year's Captain America: Civil War, and there's still time for that to happen since the movie only began production a few days ago. But it's just as likely that the character will appear in Avengers: Infinity War. So we'll see.
