DC's Convergence #7 Review: Clash Of The Titans

Convergence has been a bumpy ride, especially in the early issues. It's nice to finally be able to say that with one issue left, DC's summer event is delivering on some of the epic battles and universe shattering repercussions fans have long been waiting for.

This is an action-heavy issue as the heroes of Earth-2 and their allies throwdown in a massive slugfest between Deimos and the superheroes and villains who have sided with him in hopes of having their worlds restored.

It isn't long before Superman is battling Superman, and Deimos and Telos become locked in combat. No longer is Telos neutral and interested in preserving Brainiac's twisted experiment. He is here to put a stop to Deimos once and for all, and gets to show off his formidable power.

But he doesn't want to kill Deimos, however, for reasons that will become apparent when you read the issue. The actual fight itself looks great, with art that is much more on-point than we've seen in earlier issues.

Once again, we also get to see how the Convergence event has an effect on the wider DC universe, as Superman, Batman and the rest of the Justice League grapple with a course of action. Turns out trying to save a planet that isn't supposed to be there, filled with people who aren't supposed to be there, is a little bit of a predicament.

If there is one major complaint I have with this issue, it's that the motivations of the heroes and villains fighting alongside Deimos are paper thin. At one moment, Shazam is punching Superman and talking about how much fun it is, and a few pages later, with one line of dialogue, all the heroes and villains have changed sides to join the heroes of Earth-2 to fight against Deimos.

To say it all feels a little forced in an understatement, but as we've seen, this event doesn't really make all that much sense to begin with. You kind of just roll with it and enjoy the ride. It's just sad that it took this long for the ride to become even remotely worth the price of admission.
