Since The Big Lebowski hit theaters in 1998, it has taken on a life of its own.
Don't believe me? In 17 years, The Big Lebowski has achieved cult status, has its own shop in New York called The Little Lebowski filled with merchandise from the film and even inspired a whole new religion called Dudeism. Now all of that must mean The Big Lebowski is pretty special, don't you think?
And now The Big Lebowski has inspired one man to spend his Sunday night rewatching the movie and figuring out how to translate each scene into emojis. Yes, folks. This is the age we live in.
But all kidding aside, this is actually an amazing feat. The dude that accomplished this was Matt Haughey, a senior content marketer at Slack, and he didn't just throw a few emojis together to represent the entirety of The Big Lebowski, which you've probably seen in round-ups of movie titles in emoji form somewhere online before. Oh no. Haughey translates the whole shebang into emojis, which must have taken a lot of mental and physical exertion. We all know how hard it is to find the exact emojis you're looking for when you need them, after all.
The translation first appeared as a series of five tweets, aptly titled "Big Lebowskemoji." All of the emojis are a bit jumbled together in each of the tweets, but you get the idea.
There's also a handy dandy annotated breakdown of the movie in emojis over on Medium, which is easier to read and understand if you're a little rusty at interpreting emojis or if you're not into the whole brevity thing.
