The world domination of emojis is clearer now more than ever.
Instagram introduced its latest update Monday, and with it came a big change. The photo-sharing app now lets you use emojis in hashtags.
I repeat. You can now use emojis in hashtags. Kool and the Gang's "Celebration" should be playing on repeat in each and every one of your heads right now.
"Over the past few years, emoji have become part of a universal visual language. And just as we share photos and videos, we use emoji to communicate emotions and feelings in ways that anyone can understand, regardless of language or background," the company wrote in a blog post announcing the update Monday. "With emoji hashtags, you can discover even more by adding them to your own photos and videos, searching them on the Explore page and tapping on them when you see them in captions."
Before this update, you weren't able to search for emojis used in captions or comments, but all of that has just changed. Now, nothing can stop you from finding all of the posts on Instagram tagged with a heart, applauding hands or one of those Easter Island statues, because when you need to find these things in the photo-sharing app, you need to find them fast.
The news of emoji hashtags has obviously stolen the spotlight in this update, but the addition of three new filters called Lark, Juno and Reyes comes pretty darn close. The first two will brighten up your photos to varying degrees, while the last will give your photos a more vintage-y, paler, flatter feel. All three look pretty sweet, so #praisehands to that.
