The 2016 Dodge Viper ACR Is A Beast And It's Street Legal

Dodge has announced that it will be releasing a 2016 model for the Dodge Viper American Club Racer, which is a line of vehicles that are track-focused but completely legal for usage in the streets.

The 2016 Dodge Viper ACR will feature the same 8.4-liter V10 engine of other models of the Viper, which can generate 645 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque, along with a six-speed manual transmission.

To improve upon the performance of the 2016 Viper ACR compared to the other Vipers, the company's engineers focused on improving the vehicle's aerodynamics, tires and brakes to allow it to maintain its legendary status.

The aero package of the 2016 Viper ACR is capable of producing almost a ton of downforce at a speed of 177 miles per hour, which is about three times compared to the downforce generated by the Viper TA 2.0 package. The aero package of the 2016 Viper ACR is composed of a rear diffuser, an adjustable rear wing, and new dive planes, front splitter and hood. Most of these components are carbon fiber to lower the overall weight of the vehicle.

The Brembo brakes of the 2016 Viper ACR also use carbon, with six-piston calipers for the front brakes and four-piston calipers for the rear brakes. The vehicle also uses exclusive 19-inch Kumho Ecsta V720 tires.

The suspension of the car has also been upgraded into a double-adjustable, aluminum-bodied, coil-over Bisltein race suspensions also designed exclusively for the Viper ACR. It works in partnership with the 2016 Viper ACR's lower ride height by 3 inches in comparison to the stock Viper. The suspension stiffness of the vehicle is over twice that of the Viper TA.

The 2016 Viper ACR also features an electronic stability system and more negative camber, with Dodge claiming that the vehicle can sustain over 1.5 g when making high-speed turns as a result of the improvements made to the aerodynamics and chassis of the car.

Inside the 2016 Viper ACR, customers will be treated to an interior that mostly features suede-like Alcantara linings, with 2016 Viper ACR-exclusive seats and special badging. Customer can also choose between silver or red accent stitching over the vehicle's cabin.

Dodge will begin production of the 2016 Viper ACR in this year's third quarter. The price of the vehicle has not yet been announced, however, but it should be revealed as the sales launch of the 2016 Viper ACR draws nearer.

"The Viper has always been more of a street-legal race car than a track-capable streetcar," said Dodge President and CEO. "Our goal is to arm our enthusiasts with the ultimate Viper track car to dominate road courses around the world."
