First came Arrow. It was a hit, so The CW ordered a spinoff: The Flash. It debuted last year to huge success, so naturally it's time for Round 3.
This time, instead of focusing on a single hero, creators Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim have decided to go with a team. Their plan is to bring in a few sidekicks from the first two shows and side them up with a crew of newbies.
The new show is called Legends of Tomorrow, and its roster includes several heroes from the other two series. From Arrow, there's the Atom (Brandon Routh) and a character played by Caity Lotz who may or may not be Black Canary (she died on Arrow). Jumping ship from The Flash are Firestorm (Victor Garber and Robbie Amell) and "Rogue" villains Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell).
We have to assume those last two will have a change of heart or be coerced into signing up with a team of heroes.
Joining these five will be time traveler Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee) and a mystery character named Jay Jackson (Franz Drameh). It's anybody's guess which hero he really is, as the name doesn't have any known connection to DC's heroes.
Here's The CW's logline:
"When heroes alone are not enough... the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat — one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?"
This "immortal threat" – whoever or whatever it is – probably won't be revealed until the show airs this fall. Or possibly sooner...
Bleeding Cool is reporting that when the season finale of The Flash airs on May 19, it may just include a teaser of some kind for Legends of Tomorrow. It's also possible that one or more of the new Legends stars could turn up in the final episode itself.
There's no confirmation of this from The CW, but we'll let you know if we hear anything more.
