You're probably still getting used to all of the new offerings on Netflix Instant Streaming this month. However, Netflix is already roaring and ready to go with its newest original series Grace and Frankie.
The title characters of Grace and Frankie, played by Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, respectively, are far from being friends when the series begins. In fact, they kind of hate each other and would probably not associate with one another if their husbands, played by Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston, hadn't been law partners for decades.
But it wouldn't be a very interesting series if things stayed like this throughout all 13 episodes of Season 1, now would it? Grace and Frankie's worlds get rocked when their husbands leave them to run away together. There's no common thread stronger than that to bring two enemies together, and Grace and Frankie soon become pals, weathering the storm that is their new lives as divorcees.
All 13 episodes of Grace and Frankie are available to stream on Netflix now, but you know how fast these half-hour comedies go. Once you start, you just can't stop binge-watching them, and then you're left feeling very empty inside when you're done. Not a good feeling. Nuh-uh.
Luckily, there's one or two other things for you to watch on Netflix once you fly through Grace and Frankie. And since this new series is going to make you want to run out and see your best friend, you might as well have some entertainment planned for when you get there. So in the spirit of friendship, here are nine movie and TV shows perfect to watch with your bestie.
1. 9 To 5
Fonda and Tomlin famously appeared in this 1980 workplace revenge comedy along with Dolly Parton as three co-workers-slash-friends fed up with their boss, so obviously this movie had to be included. Nothing brings people together like accidentally poisoning your boss' coffee!
2. Bad Boys II
The word "buddy" usually appears in front of "cop movie" when we're talking about entertainment. The Bad Boys franchise is one of the most famous in this genre. Unfortunately, the 1995 original movie is not available to stream on Netflix, but you can watch its 2003 sequel now. It'll definitely be a good refresher for when Bad Boys III hits theaters, if nothing else.
3. Crossroads
Don't pretend like you didn't watch Crossroads and loved every second of it. Everyone knows that the Citizen Kane of Britney Spears movies (mostly because the singer hasn't had a starring role in any other feature film), follows three childhood friends as they have one last hurrah after high school by taking a cross-country road trip to find out that they are not girls, not yet women. There won't be a single dry eye in the house.
4. Fried Green Tomatoes
I don't know why, but somehow the lovable duo of Idgie and Ruth has been lost to the ages, never truly garnering the same status as other fierce lady friends of pop culture. Watch Fried Green Tomatoes, and you'll see why this fact is a darn shame.
5. Friends
If we're talking about movies and TV shows about friends, you've got to include, well, Friends. Come on. Everyone wishes they could live in New York and have a kooky yet endearing social circle filled with buds like Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey.
6. Girls Just Want To Have Fun
Girls Just Want to Have Fun is like the all-girl predecessor to Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Watch Sarah Jessica Parker, Helen Hunt and Shannen Doherty go on a wild, '80s-tastic adventure as they try to get to an audition for a dance TV show. Spoiler alert: These girls will, in fact, have some fun.
7. Mary & Max
The friendship between pen pals Mary, an 8-year-old girl living Australia, and Max, a middle-aged New Yorker with Asperger's, is unlikely, but it is no less heartwarming. There is so much about this movie that will bring tears to your eyes.
8. The Odd Couple
After Neil Simon's play premiered on Broadway in 1965, but before it became a TV series in 1970 and again in 2015, The Odd Couple was a movie starring the classic cinematic duo of Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon. The way these completely opposite roommates learn to make things work will inspire you to go easy on your co-habitant.
9. Parks and Recreation
Everyone wishes that they could be as close with their co-workers as the Parks and Recreation crew is. However, the real star of this show is the friendship between Leslie Knope and Ann Perkins because nothing — not jobs, men or babies — can get in the way of this sisterhood.
