When it first debuted, there really wasn't anything like Adult Swim. Sure, there were mature programming blocks before Cartoon Network's, but shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Space Ghost: Coast to Coast were completely different from anything else on television. It was weird, bizarre stuff - and people loved it. Adult Swim has been going strong since 2001, and it shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
That being said, watching Adult Swim's original shows outside of a cable subscription hasn't always been the easiest thing in the world. It's easy to find any anime that premiere during the block, as it's not owned by the network, but Adult Swim's original titles can be hard to track down. A single show may find its way onto Netflix from time to time, but it feels like the shows disappear and reappear too often to keep track of. Basically, if you're looking to watch something like Robot Chicken, your options are limited.
Thankfully, that's about to change: Hulu has just announced that full seasons of Adult Swim's best content are coming to the streaming service. It's not just one or two of the most popular shows, either: 23 Adult Swim series have made their way to Hulu.
If you've been looking for Adult Swim content and don't feel like buying dozens of DVD box sets, the move to Hulu is a blessing. Newer, more popular series like Rick and Morty aren't all that tough to find, but cult hits like Frisky Dingo and Superjail! can be a pain to watch. What's even better is that most of the series on Hulu aren't limited to a single season: most come with their entire libraries intact, meaning that you won't have to wait for months just to watch the rest of the show.
There is one huge caveat, however: the shows are only available to those with a Hulu Plus account or a pre-existing cable subscription, and even then, the choices of provider can be pretty limited (sorry, Comcast customers). If you already have a subscription, it should work out fine...but everyone else will have to wait and see if Hulu releases any of the episodes for free.
While it's not a perfect solution, Adult Swim making its way to Hulu Plus is definitely a good thing: finding some of these shows in the past has been nearly impossible. For everyone with a subscription to Hulu's paid service, this is easily the best way to watch most of Adult Swim's original content.
For those who haven't subscribed yet...maybe Hulu will release a few episodes for free?
