What LG Smartwatch To Buy: LG Watch Urbane vs. LG G Watch vs. LG G Watch R

LG has recently outed its latest smartwatch - the Watch Urbane - which is looking to redefine the premium smartwatch market space.

LG has several other wearables in the market such as the popular G Watch R and the older G Watch. We take a look at which is the best LG smartwatch to buy.

Design

The LG Watch Urbane is quite svelte and its body is made of stainless steel and has a stitched leather strap. The premium-looking smartwatch from LG boasts a round dial and is both dust and water resistant.

By comparison, the LG G Watch R is sportier looking and has a round dial as well. It too has a leather strap and a stainless steel body. The G Watch R is also water and dust resistant. However, the G Watch R does not have a power button - a feature LG likely eliminated in its attempt to keep the minimalist design intact. Therefore, the only way one can switch in the smartwatch is by plugging it into the charging dock.

The LG G Watch pales in comparison to its newer siblings when it comes to design. With a rectangular dial and a stainless steel body, this smartwatch from LG is not a shine on its siblings. Unlike the G Watch R and the Watch Urbane, the LG G Watch sports a silicone band. This wearable from LG is also dust and water resistant.

Dimensions

The Watch Urbane measures 45.5 x 52.2 x 10.9 mm, the G Watch R sports dimensions of 46.4 x 53.6 x 9.7 mm and the G Watch measures 37.9 x 46.5 x 9.95 mm.

Out of the three, the G Watch R is the thinnest and the G watch the smallest.

Weight-wise, the Watch Urbane is the heaviest at 66.5gms followed by the G Watch at 63gms. At 62gms, the G Watch R is the lightest by a fraction when compared to the G watch.

Display

Both the Watch Urbane and the G Watch R sport a 1.3-inch Full Circle P-OLED screen with 320 x 320 pixels resolution. The G Watch, on the other hand has a rectangular 1.65-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 280 x 280 pixels.

Processor and Memory

All the three wearables form LG house the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core, which is clocked at 1.2 GHz. The three smartwatches are on even keel when it comes to memory as well as all three have 512MB of RAM and support 4GB of on-board storage.

Battery

While both the Watch Urbane and G Watch R packs in a 410mAH battery, the G Watch has a marginally smaller 400mAh battery.

OS

All the devices run on the Android Wear OS are compatible with devices running Android 4.3 or higher.

Sensors

All three smartwatches from LG have 9-Axis i.e. Accelerometer/Compass/Gyro. The G Watch R and the Watch Urbane have additional sensors i.e. PPG or heart rate monitor. The G Watch R also has a barometer which is missing in the other two LG wearables.

The G Watch R and G Watch have Bluetooth 4.0, whereas the Watch Urbane boasts Bluetooth 4.1.

Colors & Price

The Watch Urbane is available in two hues: Rose gold and silver and is priced at $349.

The LG G Watch R was initially priced at $299, but post the launch of the Watch Urbane, the Google Store has slashed its price to $249. It is available in black.

The LG G Watch is priced at $229.99 and is available in Black Titan and White Gold.

Price-wise there is little separating the G Watch R and G Watch; however, the former packs in better features and is better looking too. Moreover, with G Watch having a skin reaction, one would be better off buying the successor i.e. the G Watch R.

However, those who hanker for a luxurious looking smartwatch that does not burn a hole in the wallet - then the stylish Watch Urbane is the one you should be eyeing. While its features are pretty similar to the G Watch R, the style quotient is several notches higher!
