George R.R. Martin Has Some Sage Advice On How To Survive 'The Walking Dead'

George R.R. Martin, the man behind HBO's hit show Game of Thrones, recently finished catching up on another pop-culture phenomenon - AMC's The Walking Dead.

Speaking with EW, Martin says he watched around 14 episodes in a row to get caught up on the show. While doing so, he came upon a sure-fire way to survive The Walking Dead's zombie apocalypse: find a castle.

That's not exactly easy in the United States where the show takes place, but if Europe is also suffering from a zombie problem, Martin thinks they have it much better off.

"Whatever is happening in the United States during The Walking Dead, I'm sure they're a lot better off in England because they're in castles. If they had any brains, they'd go to the existing castles and reinforce the walls," Martin tells EW. "They can patrol on the bulwarks. No way is a zombie [getting through]-medieval seige armies couldn't break castles with conventional artillery, and zombies don't use artillery. Zombies don't build trebuchets. They don't build siege towers. There is no way they can break into a well-defended castle."

Martin would know. His fantasy world of Westeros is closely based off medieval Europe, and he is a longtime student of history.

Not only would a castle protect against a zombie hoard, it would also prove to be a more than capable defense against other survivors as well. Food would of course still be a problem and require members of the group to venture outside the safety of the castle walls, but it definitely beats holding up inside a prison surrounding by a chain link fence. As long as someone doesn't find a tank, the castle survivors should be well-equipped to weather the zombie apocalypse no problem.

Thank you, George R.R. Martin, for supplying the world with your fantastic zombie-survival guidance. Now if you could stop binge watching The Walking Dead and finish The Winds of Winter, we would really appreciate it.
