Pacific Rim was enough of a moneymaker for Legendary Pictures to greenlight a pair of sequels, an animated TV series and new comic books, all in service of fleshing out the world of Jaegers and Kaiju.
Guillermo del Toro has been working on that very thing for months, and now that his gothic horror film Crimson Peak is in the can, he can focus all of his attention on building the Rimverse.
It looks like the first piece of his puzzle to reach fruition will be a Pacific Rim comic book.
Just announced, Legendary Comics (publishing arm of Legendary Pictures) is launching a four-issue miniseries called Pacific Rim: Tales From the Drift this November.
Legendary describes the comic as "a continuation of bestselling graphic novel Pacific Rim: Tales From Year Zero," but provides precious few other details. One thing we know for sure: the comic series will introduce brand new Jaegers and brand new Kaiju.
You can see a pair of them in the preview artwork below.
Tales From the Drift is written by comic writer Joshua Fialkov with art by Marcos Marz. The story was cooked up by Rim screenwriter Travis Beacham, and the series is presented by Guillermo del Toro himself. Legendary is giving away a special prize in celebration of Tales From the Drift — an exclusive page of artwork from the book by Marcos Marz. Visit this website to enter.
In addition to Pacific Rim, Legendary announced two other new comic books today. Black Bag, debuting this Fall, follows a suburban housewife-turned-superspy. Also coming in the Fall, Cops For Criminals tells the story of an FBI agent who's wrongly convicted and sent to jail. When he's released after serving his sentence, this former agent hits the streets to fight corruption among both the good guys and the bad.
