A Michigan family got the surprise of their life when they found out that their newborn was a boy and not a girl as revealed by the ultrasound.
Kyle and Danielle Williams were told by doctors during the ultrasound conducted on Oct. 4, 2014, that they were expecting a baby girl. The parents along with their 2-year-old daughter were looking forward to another daughter, who they thought of calling Charlee. However, on March 3, 2015, when the C-section was performed on Danielle, much to the family's surprise they had a son instead!
"While in the OR, the nurse told [me] that I could look over the curtain while they pulled Charlee out," recollects Kyle. "Finally I was able to see the head and what I saw next would change my life forever. My expected daughter was in fact a BOY!!!!! I was speechless."
A baffled Kyle even thought that his eyes were playing tricks on him!
The Williams had conveyed to all their family members that they were expecting a baby girl, so instead of breaking the news they chose to surprise them and even recorded their reactions for some fun. The baby's grandmother - Danielle's mother Linda Monday-Jones - was the first. As she walked in, they asked her to change the baby's diaper.
Amused, Nana kept checking the baby's diaper to confirm. The surprise and the reactions were kept up the entire day. The video has now gone viral on YouTube and has over 2,000,000 likes.
For those wondering how the ultrasound got the baby's gender wrong, experts reveal that the analysis' accuracy depends on the equipment's condition, the sonographer's experience, as well as the position of the baby.
"There is always a disclaimer with ultrasounds that nothing is 100 percent and that there is always the possibility, albeit small, that something was misidentified," explains Dr. Iffath Hosking of NYU Langone Medical Center.
Kyle and Danielle have named their bonny baby boy Bentley, even though they could have opted for Charlee.
