Nintendo's Legend of Zelda is one of the most beloved game franchises of all time, so when rumors began to circulate that Netflix might be working on a live-action Legend of Zelda show, described as "Game of Thrones for a family audience," fans got excited and worried all at once.
Adapting any video game franchise into a live-action show of film is no easy task. Factor in that Zelda games feature a silent protagonist and consist of hours of dungeon crawling and that challenge is only amplified. What then might a live action Zelda series look like?
Hopefully a little something like this. This fan-made teaser trailer from PlayerPiano for an upcoming live-action Zelda short-film knocks it out of the park. Check it out below.
Here we see Link, riding his faithful steed Epona, as he approaches Hyrule Castle and the surrounding town for one final showdown with the master of darkness himself, Ganondorf.
Featuring epic scenery, impressive visuals and triumphant music, the trailer sets the stage for the full "Final Battle" short-film, which will recreate the iconic duel between Link and Ganondorf at the end of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
If a Legend of Zelda show can look half as good as this fan-made project, color us impressed. PlayerPiano says the full short film will debut later this year alongside a Zelda-themed music video. We can only hope Netflix is paying attention. For what we think a Zelda television series needs to be successful, check out this feature story.
