Rumors are stating that Apple could be unveiling the much-awaited 12-inch Retina MacBook Air at an upcoming event.
Apple sent out invitations last week for the company's March 9 event entitled "Spring Forward," which will be held in San Francisco at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
Apple is expected to talk more about its upcoming Apple Watch at the event, as the smartwatch's release date draws nearer. However, The Michael Report received exclusive information from sources that are familiar with the matter that Apple is looking to introduce the Retina MacBook Air at the same March 9 event.
According to The Michael Report, it has independently confirmed that the information that it received regarding Apple's announcement of the 12-inch Retina MacBook Air at the event is very credible.
The report notes that the received information coincides with the month-ago predictions that have been made by analysts Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities and Andrew Uerkwitz of Morgan Stanley regarding Apple's development of such a MacBook.
Sources from Apple's supply chain that have spoken to media outlets also previously revealed that Apple had decided to increase production of the MacBook's components late last year and entered the mass production phase in December 2014, aiming to produce enough units to launch the device early this year.
The MacBook Air lineup of Apple, which received a small upgrade in April of 2014, still uses non-Retina screens, with the screen resolution of the devices not yet updated since 2010. This marks a huge difference compared to the rest of the company's computer lines, which have launched Retina screen counterparts since the 2012 unveiling of the first Retina MacBook Pro.
Earlier reports on the 12-inch Retina MacBook Air stated that the new laptop will feature an ultra slim design, combining the productivity found in the 13-inch MacBook Air and the portability showcased by the 11-inch MacBook Air.
The new MacBook will supposedly be powered by Intel's next-gen Broadwell Core M low-power processor, allowing for a much thinner profile for the device as the fan assembly can be entirely removed.
For the new MacBook's body to become lighter and thinner, Apple had to reportedly make compromises of taking away the laptop's full-sized USB ports, SD card slots and MagSafe connectors.
Previous reports also stated the new MacBook, internally codenamed "MacBook Stealth," will see a modest decrease in price compared to its earlier counterparts.
Leaked images of an assembled display unit of the 12-inch Retina MacBook Air uploaded last month provided the first glimpse into the new device, showing that the laptop would be the thinnest ever released by Apple.
