NetherRealm Studios continues its roll-out of characters and details about Mortal Kombat X in a new trailer just released.
Along with the return of numerous old favorites like Raiden, Sub-Zero and Reptile, the game is introducing a new generation of warriors, some of whom are the offspring of champions past. Cassie Cage, for example, is the daughter of old guard fighters Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade.
The latest trailer includes some additional character reveals, but the real focus this time is on the story. The trailer finally gives you a taste of what's at stake and why in this hotly-anticipated game.
What outsiders to the franchise never really understand is that there's a rich mythology accompanying the Mortal Kombat universe. It's gone through years and years of geographic, political and personal changes, adding more and more to the history of the six realms. It's even undergone an in-universe reboot, in the series' last game — and the first created by NetherRealm — simply titled Mortal Kombat. That game saw Raiden reset history.
In Mortal Kombat X, NetherRealm is taking another bold step forward by advancing the plot across 25 years of time. New characters revealed in the trailer include Jax's daughter Jacqueline Briggs, Kenshi's son Takashi Takeda, and Kung Lao's descendant Kung Jin. Who else will be revealed as playable characters? We'll have to wait and see.
The wait is almost over. Mortal Kombat X arrives April 14, 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
