It's just not a Mortal Kombat game without finishers. Over the years, there have been literally dozens of different ways to finish off opponents: Friendships, Babalities, Animalities - and, of course, the famous Fatality. While 2011's Mortal Kombat 9 did well in this regard (and actually featured some of the best Fatalities in the franchise), there was one thing missing from players' arsenals: the Brutality.
For those who haven't played the older games, the Brutality was a variation on the Fatality that usually required a far more complex button combo to pull off - the reward, however, was almost always worth it. Instead of an opponent simply dying, most straight-up exploded. It was absolutely ridiculous, and fit right in with Mortal Kombat.
Now, it seems like NetherRealm is set to bring the Brutality back into Mortal Kombat. It's been hinted that today's livestream (which you can view below) will serve as the finisher's grand debut in Mortal Kombat X:
To be perfectly fair, it's not really a secret at this point: NetherRealm hasn't exactly been subtle about whether or not Brutalities will make a return:
Even so, it's easy to imagine how far NetherRealm has gone with these new finishers...in a series where decapitations and exploding bodies are the norm, you know that something called a Brutality is going to be special.
There's no word on whether or not a new character is set to debut, but for now, it seems like NetherRealm is more focused on Brutalities and finishers than anything else. You never know, though - the studio is famous for ending its shows with a tease...
Mortal Kombat X - and all of its ridiculous finishers - are set to hit store shelves on April 14.
