The beta version of the long-awaited first-person shooter game, "Titanfall," is finally out. All Xbox One users are eligible to register to test out the beta and so far the reviews are all favorable. Still, the question is: Will it be enough to boost Xbox One sales over Sony's PlayStation 4?
Microsoft certainly hopes so and perhaps the complete openess of the Titanfall beta is Microsoft's attempt to woo gamers over to the Xbox One. The strategy seems to be working well so far, as the Internet is abuzz with glowing reviews for Titanfall. It's fast, the graphics are slick, it's customizable and in general, everything gamers hoped for when they first heard that it was coming.
The game comes from Entertainment Arts and the developers from Respawn Entertainment who were responsible for the other most popular first-person shooter game, "Call of Duty." Titanfall features pilots and huge, fast-moving machines called Titans. The shooter game supports multiple players and is best enjoyed as a multi-player game among friends.
Many reviewers are calling Titanfall a combination of Call of Duty and Halo - the two most popular shooter games around. It combines the realism of Call of Duty with the fantastical elements of Halo, making it the best of both worlds. The selection of weapons is great and depending on which character you choose, you have a lot of opportunities to customize your weapon selection.
Part of the appeal behind Titanfall is that its a man vs. machine kind of game. It's a futuristic premise that it sure to appeal to sci-fi gamers as well as action movie buffs. Although the human always has a chance, he really has to figure out how to defeat the machine using his brain because let's face it, a human's strength pales in comparison with that of these high-tech machines.
To download the Titanfall beta, all you have to do is go to the "New Game Demos" part of the Game Store. You can also say, "Xbox Bing" and "Show me game demos," to find the Titanfall beta. The beta should run through Tuesday night, but due to server problems on Friday, it might be extended to Wednesday. PC gamers can also access the beta via My Games Library in Origin.
Titanfall will be officially launched on March 11 alongside a special edition Titanfall Xbox One. Prior to the launch, Microsoft is expected to release a software update with multi-player improvements for the Xbox One.
