The 'John Wick' Kill Counter: A Bloody Barrage Of Bullets

Late last year, John Wick surprised everyone by being a rare, watchable Keanu Reeves movie - even more than that, it was a solid movie on its own. It proved that, despite the two terrible Matrix sequels, Reeves is great when he's got a gun in each hand and a soundtrack to back him up. Sure, it wasn't the greatest movie ever made, and it didn't exactly reinvent the wheel, but it was a fun, turn-off-your-brain sort of flick.

Of course, one question that always comes up in these kinds of movies is "how many people did our hero just kill?" John Wick isn't the most violent movie ever made, but there's plenty of gunfights and explosions - meaning more than a few people met their end. So - exactly how many people did John Wick take down?

Thanks to Nick DiNizio, we have an answer (Spoiler Warning):

It goes to show that, despite the seemingly endless violence on screen, John Wick doesn't have that huge of a body count...at least by action movie standards. 76 kills isn't bad, and it's easily one of the most stylish body counts anyone has ever seen - but in the grand scheme of things, it's just not that big.

Who knows - maybe John Wick 2 will feature even bigger gunfights, which means even more bad guys, which means an even higher body count. Most sequels seem to follow the trend - maybe John Wick 2 will hit the big 100.

If you're wondering which movie has the highest body count...well, it gets a little tricky. Depending on how you look at it - whether or not CG counts, or if implied deaths should be added in - the number one spot fluctuates. The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King tops the total number with 836, while many cite John Woo's Hard Boiled for having the most on-screen, no-CGI deaths at 307.

Who knew people kept such close tabs on Hollywood violence?
