'John Wick' fails to take box office #1: Horror film 'Ouija' rises to the occasion

With all the great reviews John Wick has been achieving, we thought the movie would have opened at number one at the box office, but we were wrong. It's Halloween, so to see a movie like Ouija taking the top position is not that surprising.

Ouija is a low-budget thriller film that managed to take the box office with over $20 million. Keanu Reeve's latest film, John Wick, opened with over $14 million at second place.

The reason for Ouija's success at the box office has a lot to do with Halloween than anything else as the film is currently ranked 10 percent on RottenTomato. John Wick, on the other hand, is riding high with 87 percent, as critics and moviegoers alike have great things to say about the film.

Critics did not expect much from Keanu Reeves and his new film, which is mainly due to the failure of 47 Ronin. Reeves is in a fight to get his career back on track but is finding it difficult to land the correct roles.

From what we are seeing, John Wick could be the very film to throw Reeves back into the eyes of filmmakers who are seeking a good action star. We understand that Reeves is hoping to land a deal with either DC or Marvel. We also came across rumors of Marvel possibly looking to cast Keanu Reeves as Doctor Strange.

In the third place, Brad Pitt's Fury is still doing well and is expected to hold that position for at least another week. The film managed to grab $13 million worth of ticket sales this week, for an overall $46 million domestically.

When it comes down to fourth position, Ben Affleck's Gone Girl is holding on tight as moviegoers are still reeling from the horrors they have witnessed. We never thought Gone Girl could have such long legs to stay in the top 5 at the box office for so long, despite the release of several new films.

Gone Girl raked in over $11 million for the week for an overall $124 million in the United States alone.
