The "abandoned building" photography genre is always a crowd-pleaser, as proven by the many Buzzfeed listicles on the subject. There's just something simultaneously creepy and fascinatingly beautiful about looking at photos of empty spaces once ruled by capitalism. Ohio-based photojournalist Johnny Joo adds a new twist to the genre by capturing images of Akron's vacant Rolling Acres Mall after a recent snowfall.
Posted on his Facebook page last week, Joo's photographs depict an eerie winter wonderland with a very man vs. nature vibe. "Nature paints a soft and beautiful world into the last place you would expect to see it," he wrote on his page.
Head over to his website to see more of his photographs and keep an eye out for his book Empty Spaces coming out this spring.
