Game publisher Bethesda has just announced that, for the first time ever, the company will be holding a press conference for their games at E3 2015.
The news comes via Bethesda's official blog, where the company is telling fans to "save the date" of June 14, 2015 for its press conference in Hollywood, California.
The press conference will also be streamed live on Twitch.
Why is this exciting news? Because Bethesda only has a few games that have previously been confirmed. One is Elder Scrolls Online, which is dropping its subscription fee and will appear on consoles this summer. Another is the long awaited next installment in the Doom franchise. Bethesda also has their free-to-play brawler Battlecry to show off.
But three video games does not an entire press conference make. Bethesda is certain to announce new titles at the show and for many fans there is only one game on their mind: Fallout 4.
Long rumored but never confirmed, fans have assumed Bethesda Game Studios started work on the next installment in the post-apocalyptic, open world RPG franchise after the massive success of their last game, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Bethesda Softworks released Fallout 3 in 2008 before beginning work on Skyrim. Fallout: New Vegas, published by Bethesda and developed by Obsidian Entertainment, released in 2010. Skyrim released in 2011, four years ago.
It definitely seems like the moment is right for another Fallout, this time on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Leaked casting documents from 2013 and obtained by Kotaku indicate the game is currently under production and may possibly be set in the Boston, Massachusetts area.
If the game does appear at E3 during Bethesda's press conference, it might mean we could see Fallout 4 by year's end. Bethesda famously debuted Skyrim to the world at Spike's VGA show in 2010 with a release date of Nov. 11, 2011. In a day and age when games are announced years ahead of time, the revelation that players would have their hands on the next Elder Scrolls game in less than a year's time was a huge surprise.
Bethesda may be looking to do something similar this year. Announcing Fallout 4, followed by a holiday season 2015 release date, would set the gaming world on fire with anticipation.
Or none of that may come to pass. Whatever the future holds, it is almost certain Bethesda will announce one or more new games at E3 this year. Let's hope it's Fallout 4.
