Because Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu, HBO (soon), Vudu and all the others aren't enough, another streaming video service has just entered the horse race. Unlike the heavy hitter subscription services, this one is totally free.
Shout! Factory has just announced the launch of Shout! Factory TV, a new branded digital entertainment service. It purports to offer a "uniquely curated library" of cult shows and movies, comedy specials, along with some original content.
The eclectic programming selection includes Mystery Science Theater 3000, The Weird Al Show, Newhart, It's Gary Shandling's Show, The Practice, Hill Street Blues, The Twilight Zone, Dennis the Menace, Fridays, Father Knows Best, Mary Tyler Moore, The Saint, Laverne & Shirley, Kevin Smith: Smodimations, The Dick Van Dyke and more, along with selections from the careers of Werner Herzog and Roger Corman.
Currently, it's available to watch via the web, or Roku owners can download the app at watch Shout! Factory TV on their TV. Presumably, apps for other hardware devices will be along eventually. Shout! says that there are already more than 2,500 hours of content available to watch entirely for free.
