Content creation on Instagram got a whole lot better as Meta has now released its promised video production app, Edits. Meta promises an entirely free experience to create new videos, particularly Reels for Instagram, via this latest ap.
Users may now enjoy this free editing app that is now stepping up to rival TikTok and its editing platform, CapCut, which also came from ByteDance.
Meta Launches Instagram's Edits App Globally
Meta has finally launched its promised app which will serve as the go-to app for all content creation needs, and it is called "Edits, an Instagram app" or simply "Edits."
The launch made the new app available globally and simultaneously on iOS and Android platforms, giving users worldwide massive access to the latest experience for video editing.
The app is more than a video editing platform, particularly as Edits allows users to easily generate video ideas and discover different content creation inspirations. The app likewise promises that their videos are available to post on any platform.
Moreover, Edits also promises free access to all features and aspects of the app at launch. This is in contrast to the current CapCut experience as recently, the Chinese video editing app has been paywalling certain aspects of its features, per TechCrunch.
How Does 'Edits' Fare Against CapCut?
As of writing, Edits has the edge over TikTok's CapCut as it promises a watermark-free export for videos created via the app. Moreover, Meta also leverages the many content creation and AI tools available for its Edits app.
Users may also enjoy licensed and trending audio from Instagram Music on their video creations via Edits, a similar auto-caption feature, and AI-powered audio. Users may also enjoy real-time engagement data on their Instagram Reels posts via the Edits app.
Meta's Rivalry with TikTok
TikTok has taken the social media world by storm, and other companies, especially Meta, have come up with their own vertical video experiences. Instagram debuted Reels in 2020, and it gave the world a short-form vertical video experience available directly in the multimedia app.
However, it did not end there. Meta has brought significant improvements to Reels that made it more competitive against its rival, with features like 2x speed, the ability to save a Reel, in-app content creation tools, and more.
It is also known that Meta heralded its Reels as the top alternative for TikTok back when the latter faced a potential ban, and Meta likewise stepped up when TikTok was temporarily taken down earlier this year.
That being said, Meta continues to deliver more experiences for the public to enjoy as one of TikTok's top contenders, and one of its many advantages is that it does not face the same legal trouble as its rival.
