First-Ever Apple Intelligence-Generated Image Features SVP Craig Federighi’s Dog

It looks like a character taken out of a Pixar movie.

Apple is getting deeper into artificial intelligence with new features like Image Playgrounds and Genmoji. We haven't seen much of these tools beyond some promotions, but Apple has shared more information. These tools are expected to launch with iOS 18.2 later this year, giving people more creative options.

On top of that, let's take a look at the first image created by Apple Intelligence.

First Image Created by Apple Intelligence

First-Ever Apple Intelligence-Generated Image Features SVP Craig Federighi’s Dog
Apple Intelligence is not yet fully baked. However, the iPhone maker released the first AI-made image featuring Craig Federighi’s dog. What does it look like? Apple

Apple gave WIRED magazine a first look at this tool. They showed an AI-created picture of Craig Federighi's dog named Bailey. The picture came from the animation option inside Image Playgrounds. WIRED added a label saying "AI-Generated Image" while Apple didn't put any mark on it.

Still, hidden data inside the image file will help iOS apps know it's AI-generated.

Even though the data may be lost with cropping or screenshots some tools might help remove it completely. Apple's use of less realistic styles will probably keep these AI-generated images from looking like real photos. At launch, people will pick between animation sketch and illustration styles.

Image Playgrounds: A Fresh Way to Build

Apple's Image Playgrounds could change how people create images. Users will be able to create illustrations, sketches, and animations by typing simple text. This tool isn't in the current iOS 18.1 beta but should arrive with the iOS 18.2 update.

Genmoji: Personal AI Avatars

Genmoji is another cool tool. It should work alongside Image Playgrounds, letting people create custom avatars. We don't have much info yet, but Genmoji will probably work like Memoji, only with more control powered by AI.

Users might be able to shape avatars using just text, bringing more ways to personalize their Apple apps.

AI Throughout Apple Devices

When Image Playgrounds arrives, people won't need a separate app to get creative. Tools will show up in apps like Messages too. Apple's AI could suggest images based on what people are talking about, so it might help users create content quickly during conversations.

Not all Apple users will access these tools though. Only people with an iPhone 15 Pro, or an iPad or Mac with M1 chips or newer, will have the power to run them, according to 9to5Mac. These newer devices give the AI tools the strength they need to perform well.

Delays in the EU

U.S. customers will get AI features with iOS 18.1 starting in October. People in the European Union, however, will wait longer. Apple is working on following EU laws, said Craig Federighi.

This means U.S. customers will be the first to use Image Playgrounds and Genmoji. Other places like the UK may get it in December, with more languages coming in 2025.

Creative AI Takes a Step Forward

Apple's tools like Image Playgrounds and Genmoji are big advancements in creative technology. Users will soon have new ways to build custom images and avatars across different art styles.

While there's still some time before the launch the future looks interesting. Apple's focus on privacy and regulations also means these AI features should arrive responsibly and securely.
