Meta is the source of the leak behind the Quest 3S, the next-generation wearable that will soon be unveiled by the company to join its lineup. From the new device's name, it was determined to be a variant of its popular Quest 3 app which launched in September last year, and it is best known as Meta's first foray into mixed-reality technology.
The details behind Quest 3S remain scarce, but the image alone gave the world massive information about what it will offer once it drops.
Meta's Quest 3S was Accidentally Leaked by Them
A Redditor called u/Gary_the_mememachine shared a significant discovery of the upcoming Quest 3S, and this was taken directly from the Oculus Link app's files. It is believed that this was accidentally leaked by Meta, but it is already too late as many users were able to save the image and share it online.
UploadVR has also verified that this image was indeed from Meta's Quest Link, and users can still find it by typing "oculus-link-hero-panther.png" on the app.
It was revealed that this is the cheaper version of the Quest 3, with the wearable sacrificing several features to make it more affordable and attract more users to buy. This leak also corroborates the earlier unveiled Quest 3S headset accessories that already popped up online.

The Quest 3S is the New Budget-Friendly Headset
Despite being the 'budget-friendly' version, the Quest 3S would still deliver iconic features that were enjoyed on the Quest 3. The image depicts two sets of triple-sensor arrays, which also house camera lenses, and bring the Passthrough feature that blends the virtual world and augmented reality.
It was also revealed that while the Quest 3S is reminiscent of the Quest 2's flat panel, it is expected to be a far more advanced version of the headset. Reportedly, the Quest 3S will feature mixed reality (XR) like the Quest 3.
The Quest 3S is expected to be sold for $250 to $300.
The Future of Meta Quest Headsets
There is an upcoming Meta Connect 2024 slated for September 25 to 26, and this recent slip-up by Meta regarding its cheaper wearable may be officially unveiled later this month right at the event. It was initially speculated as the "Quest Lite," but this revelation will tie it to the Quest 3, one of its most successful headsets in the world.
Massive leaks and rumors have surrounded Meta's Quest development, with speculators sharing last year that the company has partnered with LG to supply the next Quest 4 Pro with improved displays.
It was said to be different from Meta's plans to bring a Quest Pro 2 device that would succeed its most expensive headset to date, 2022's Quest Pro.
Different leaks claimed that they were able to access Meta's roadmaps for Quest's future release, unveiling around three headsets that will be available in the years to come and extend until 2027.
