US retail Target might have hinted that Apple EarPods are about to be discontinued soon, coinciding with the "It's Glowtime" event.

For the past few years, Apple has been removing EarPods from some of its devices.

Aaron Perris in the report found in the social media platform X cited in MacRumors indicates that Target, a major retail store in the United States puts all three EarPods versions including Lightning, 3. 5mm, and USB-C models are titled "Non-Carry Forward."

The above categorization implies that Apple could possibly be planning to phase out the EarPod in the shortest time possible; the accessory has been in the market for more than a decade.

While there is no official date given as to when Apple will remove its wired earbuds, the timing of the news gives a signal that Apple's "It's Glowtime" event may announce the end of the wired earbuds.

If confirmed, then it means the virtual extinction of EarPods after serving Apple for twelve years of use.

A Look Back: History of Beloved EarPods

EarPods were launched in 2012 as the new earphones replacing the older round-shaped ones that accompanied both iPhones, iPods, and iPads. Initially, when the EarPods were released they came with a 3. output to an old-fashioned 3.5mm jack, which was popular with almost all other devices.

Nevertheless, in the year 2016, Apple took a big hit with the release of the iPhone 7 from which it removed the headphone jack. To adapt to this change Apple introduced a new version of the EarPods that have the connection type of lightning allowing people to still use wired headphones with iPhones.

During the same year, we saw the peak season of AirPods which captivated a lot of hearts due to the wireless trend from Apple.

Last year, when the iPhone 15 was announced to transition to USB-C, Apple introduced a new version of EarPods with a USB-C connector. Although there are more popular wired earbuds in existence, EarPods still remain one of the go-to choices of many fans especially those who want to have a high-quality mic.

What the Discontinuation Means for Fans

With EarPods seemingly nearing its end, fans knew that it was one of the most reliable and affordable wired earbuds that they use up to this day.

With Apple now focusing on improving the wireless AirPods and other Bluetooth options, EarPods are a great choice for people who love to get a cost-effective alternative that does not sacrifice sound quality.

AirPods are powerful given that they are wireless. As for wired earbuds, it's hassle to carry them sometimes but what you're paying here is the stability. There are no batteries or charging involved here. For uninterrupted calls, EarPods are still favored by some users.

Other Rumored Apple Product Updates

Aside from sunsetting EarPods soon, Apple might have been preparing to shed some light on several rumors as the Glowtime tech showcase approaches.

Some reports suggest that the iPhone maker will skip the Apple Watch Ultra 3 this year. Instead, the company will focus on re-launching the sleek black version of the Apple Watch Ultra 2.

Apart from that, some speculations said that there would be a delay for the Apple Watch SE. Instead of featuring traditional aluminum, it would come with a plastic case this time.
